Nail Friday!

Hello! I'm going to try to make Friday my nail day! Like I've said before, I haven't tried anything too crazy with my nails. However, I'm really enjoying doing the whole accent nail. I know I'm late to the party, but it usually takes me awhile to like something. Also, on a note, these pics were taken with my cell phone, so they're not the greatest. I'll try and make an effort to take better photos. ;)

Right now, I'm *really* loving Essie's lilacism. I have so many new colours to try but I keep coming back to this one! When I received my Julep Maven box with the glittery Brooke, I knew I wanted to pair the two! I painted all nails 2 coats of lilacism and two coats of Brooke on the accent nail. Here is the result:

(in natural light)

(under fluorescent light)

My goodness, these colours are *so* pretty together! I am beyond thrilled with the Brooke colour. It's ultrafine glitter that catches a TON of light. The picture of the bottle really doesn't do it justice! I think tomorrow I'm going to switch it up and put Brooke on all the rest of my nails!

Also, the colour by Essie is so pretty. I can't get enough of it and the creamy texture. I found some matte topcoat that I absoloutely cannot wait to try with it!

I hope you have a great weekend! If you tried either of these colours, what do you think?

Julep Maven - Introductory Box

I'm *super* excited to have received my first box from Julep Maven. It was here in a FLASH! They shipped the same day I ordered my intro box and it came all the way from California to my home in Winnipeg, Canada in 10 days! I'm impressed.

At first I was a little iffy on joining a nail polish beauty box. One of the main reasons is because of the price. 19.99 a month which includes shipping. But, honestly... I'm SO happy now that I did sign up and it's well worth it! I know this will be a favourite of mine!

So, the following in what I got in my introductory box and I love it all so far, visually of course! ;) The best part is, it was only .o1!! That's right, 1 cent!! The value of the box is $60. The polishes are $14 each and the scrub is $32. I'm so excited to try it. I've heard a-ma-zing things about this scrub, I'm giddy. :) I'll also be removing my current polish today to play with the glittery one as an accent nail.

This is the Julep Facial for Hands - Glycolic Hand Scrub:
Potent glycolic acid combined with apricot seeds provides powerful double exfoliation that leaves your hands feeling noticeably softer and looking younger after just one use. Naturally scented with orange oil for a refreshing aromatherapy boost with each use.

Next is Brooke polish - Sheer shimmery purple. Use alone or over another shade to add a modern twist. The picture here looks like it has a ton of gold glitter in it, but it really shows up when the light hits it a certain way. It's VERY pretty!

Finally, Jennifer polish - Beautiful, sheer polish with just a hint of pink. Love, love this colour! I'm totally into very light colours right now. This pink is perfect!

So, the box came like most beauty boxes with the crinkly paper and the polishes were wrapped VERY well in bubble wrap and tied with a pretty pink ribbon! Bonus on the ribbon as I hoard ribbon for paper crafting. ;) They also threw in a basic foam nail file which I'll throw in my purse for an emergency.

If you haven't joined Julep Maven, you are missing out. My April box is already on the way and I already can't wait to get it!

Baby Wipes!

Do you keep a box of these at home? My youngest son is 4 now but I still buy wipes..by the case! They are great for everything. There's probably a list somewhere for 101 uses of this awesome product!

I use mine in beauty, as well! When I am removing makeup off my face they are perfect! I usually run them under warm water and squeeze out the excess. Then, I squirt some eye make up remover and gently cleanse from the inner eye to the outer eye to remove mascara, liner and shadow. Works like a dream!

My absolute favourite way to use wipes is to use them as a cleansing cloth! So much cheaper than buying the specialty cloths! Again, I run the wipe under warm water until saturated and then ring it out. I squirt on some of my face wash and work it into a bit of a lather, adding a drop of water. It feels SO good on the face and it's a much better wash than just hands on face!

Do you use baby wipes in your beauty routine? If so, how!?

Welcome!

Hello, welcome to my new blog! :) I wanted to start this blog because I have a lot of fun with makeup and beauty and thought I would share that. Perhaps, if I get some visitors there may be some helpful hints and reviews for you!

I'm really just an ordinary girl, I don't have any huge skills, but I don't mind trying things out at all. :) I chose the name plumpish, because well that's what I am..hehe. Most blogs I visit there are these gorgeous girls with perfect makeup and I wanted to appeal to the average woman who doesn't have all the technical skills but still loves makeup and beauty!

Occassionally, I will share some fashion stuff I find. I know how hard it is to find decent clothes when you're plumpish! I will share a great before and after of what a difference nice clothes can make when you are a heavier woman. Trust me, I do my fair share of lounging in yoga pants!

So, I thought I would start out this blog with some facts and such! So, come along and see what I have to share!

My two must have beauty staples are mascara and lipgloss! If I have nothing else on my face it's that!

My favourite brand of cosmetics is Quo. It's a "luxury" drugstore brand. It's not as expensive as say MAC but it's more expensive than the average drugstore brand. I bought a lip gloss stick yesterday, like the 4th one in the picture and it was $10 on sale, regular $14 I believe.

Two things I should have learned sooner than later, is to moisturize! I thought it was a waste of money to spend money on a product that isn't too much fun. But, as I'm 31 now, I wish I had started sooner. I wish it's something someone would have taught me!

The other thing is... USE heat protectant in your hair any time you blowdry, curl, flatiron! Yes! It does make a difference. :S Lesson learned the hard way with tons of split ends!

My favourite nailpolish brand is Essie. I just love the colours!

My favourite beauty tools are a flat iron and a curling wand!

Two things I would like to perfect and I'm afraid of are red lipstick and blush.

These are on my top 3 list of learning to do: false eyelashes, cateye and different eyeshadow techniques...because currently I only have 1 technique. ;)

I'd like to add lipstick to my makeup bag, because it's one product I'd like to use but have trouble with as I'm so use to wearing only gloss.

I'd love to try some nailart. Nothing too wild, something simple and perhaps geometric.

Something I always keep in my pocket is chapstick.

My favourite fashion accessories are my red Gasenvoort purse from Michael Kors and dangly earrings!

My next splurge may be the Clairsonic Mia. I have my eye on this!

Most of my makeup comes from Shoppers Drug Mart. A Canadian store.

I have JUST discovered beauty boxes. I'm signed up for 4 and on a waiting list for 1 more. They're super cheap full of samples of things you may have wanted to try but didn't want to splurge on! I haven't received any but am expecting 3 of them for March and one starting in April. The ones I am signed up for are: luxebox/loosebutton, glossybox, glymm and beautybox 5. The first 3 are Canadian but they may be branching out to the US. Stay tuned as I will do reviews on these boxes!

I splurge on getting my eyebrows threaded, which really isn't much of a splurge. I cheap out on hair colour as I dye at home. My beauty secrets involve baby wipes and a concealer trick. Stay tuned for all this stuff! I'm currently growing out my eyebrows (which I hate doing!!!!) so I can share the before and afters of threading! I'll also show you how scary my hair looks when I let it air dry and my techniques for taming it! Including different curling techniques!

I hope to have some fun and hope that someone can find some use from my blog! If you're here, thanks for stopping by!
