Glossybox - December Edition

So, this is my December Glossybox.  I'm sure most of my readers have been following the drama on Facebook regarding a couple old and discontinued items we received in the box.  Because, it sort of gets repetitive I'll just touch on those items as they come up.  I don't really want to get into the whole thing because I really don't know how I feel about it.  I'm not angry but I am disappointed.  At the end of the day they were a couple of cheap products that I'm not worried about.  I guess we'll see what happens from here on in.  Canadians for a while have been feeling our Glossyboxes have been sub par to other regions of the world. I really don't have much opinion on that myself because it's all relative to where you live I guess?

Anyhow... December Glossybox.  Again, the magazine came with it.  I think it's a nice little extra touch especially since we are paying $21 as opposed to the $15 we used to pay for the subscription.  I think this magazine was actually a little bigger than the last months. The majority of the magazine is trends for 2013, there is a section on how to recreate the cover models look, a 2013 horoscope, a blogger/vlogger of the month and an editors pick section.

There were again, 50 golden ticket items in the Glossyboxes.  A necklace from Nobia.

As you can see this months Glossybox is not pink!  It it a glossy silver box. Don't mind the glitter all over the floor from my Starlooks box! I took all my pics the same time!

Well, I guess the box was silver because it was a special Lou Lou edition. Even the sticker and ribbon were silver. Actually, so was the crinkle in the box! With the product card there was also a subscription card to Lou Lou magazine.  I am surprised that if Lou Lou is affiliated with the box that there wasn't a special subscribers rate. I guess $14.95 for 8 issues is a pretty good magazine deal, already.

Now on to the contents...

Tresemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo. Full size 161g for $5.99. Sample size 56g valued at $2.08.

I've never tried dry shampoo and quite frankly I'm just terrified of it.  I always mean to try some on the weekend and then I forget.  There is no way I could try this in the work week, I'm not organized enough if there is a big disaster.  Then again, I don't like my hair not shampooed.  I do however only shampoo every other day.  I know some of the girls have already tried this and liked it.

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Daily Moisturizer SPF 30. Full size 73ml valued at $25.99.

I know Aveeno is not everyone's cup of tea, but I really like getting Aveeno in my Glossybox.  I think it's a good product and this is the kind of product I have a hard time justifying the price on.  I would definitely be willing to repurchase if it's good though!  This lotion is meant to soothe and calm irritation due to dry skin.  A tip LOULOU suggests is to mix a drop with your foundation for a luminous glow.

WEBSITE: Aveeno

Aveeno Positively Radiant Tinted Moisturizer (Fair to Light) SPF 30. Full size 75ml valued at $25.99.

Another Aveeno product.  I'm sure the people who "love" Aveeno were happy about that. ;)  This is designed to improve all 5 factors of radiance: tone, texture, dullness, blotchiness and brown spots.  I guess a tinted moisturizer is similar to a BB cream.  I'm really excited to try this! I've never actually used a tinted moisturizer!

WEBSITE: Aveeno

Avon Glazewear Extreme in Pale Pink Shine. Full size 6ml valued at $7.99.

So, this is where the big problem came in. Everyone received different Avon glosses and liquid shadows.  The labeling is in Polish and other European languages.  Bonus for me since I can read it? lol.  Anyways... peoople have contacted Avon and some of the colours have been discontinued since 2005.  Glossybox says that the overseas supplier assures everyone that these are current colours in Europe.  I really don't know and I don't really care to dig around.  It's sealed.  I'll probably try it on my lips if it stinks or feels weird or toss it. Yah, I'm gross like that. :P

WEBSITE: Avon

Sealed tightly with the name on the wrap.  Where do I get the code from to check the batch number?

Aside from all the Avon drama... this is a really nice colour.  This is pretty accurate to the colour in person.

Revlon Nail Enamel. Full size 14.7ml valued at $4.47.

I'm giving it a value of $4.47 as opposed to $5.99 because that's how much I see these polishes at Walmart for.  These Revlon polishes were another reason of the upset with Glossybox.  Colours were old collections, some had clearance stickers from RiteAid (not a store in Canada) and some had spilled polish on the outside of the bottles.  Meh, it's nail polish in general they can keep forever and you can't get an infection from sharing polish.  Hopefully, it wasn't tested though.

I'm not really a fan of the colour, but oh well. Russian Roulette with beauty boxes, right?  The colour I received was...  #904 Opulent Pink. Apparently, a rare hard to find colour. ;) Buuuuut....

WEBSITE: Revlon

My label says 705 Gray Suede.  I actually googled Gray Suede and I'm BUMMED I didn't get that. What a tease!

Glossybox Lashes. Full sized 1 set valued at $12.50.

I love getting lashes in boxes, because it's not something that I would normally buy.  They don't feel plasticky at all like the ones in a previous BB5.  They are however VERY dramatic.  Like a la Katy Perry dramatic! The nice thing about these is that they do come with glue.  A lot of them don't.  So, if you're a beginner you don't have to go out and spend the money on a big bottle of glue only to hate lashes! There are also instructions on the back of the box, which I haven't seen on most lash packaging!

Here is a closeup.

Tresemmé Split Remedy Sachet. Full sizes retail for $5.99 for 700ml bottles. Sample size .15 for both.

This was just a bonus item.  However, I've already heard some good reviews on it.  I really like testing shampoos on my problem hair, so I don't mind getting this little bonus item.  Thank you Tresemmé!

Nobia X-Cessories. Earrings valued at $14.99.

This was a bonus item.  I thought it was a thoughtful gesture.  However, these earrings aren't really my style..but on the plus they are my birth stone.  Maybe it's something my daughter can wear after her ears are healed properly.  When I first checked out the website I didn't see these on there and I estimated them at about $5 considering there are much larger ornate earrings for $14.99.  The earrings also came with a 30% off code to the store.  I'm tempted on a couple things. ;)

Here is a closeup, what do you think?

Here is the whole box.  It's valued at $94.16.  I won't say anymore about the fiasco with Avon and Revlon because like I said before, I'm not really sure where my feelings are on that one.  Overall I thought it was a good box.  What do you think?

Hope you have a happy hump day!

  1. I'm not subscribed to glossybox but I read a lot of these posts. Compared to ALL other countries, Canada's glossybox is definitely and unfortunately subpar. Plus, their business practices seem a little... sketchy. But despite everything, the colour is a pretty colour :) xx

    1. That's really too bad. We have a lot of great lesser known Canadian brands that I would love to see in this box!

  2. Don't fear the dry shampoo! It is pretty easy to use. You just spray your hair at the roots, let it sit a couple of minutes and brush. The product absorbs oils and usually gives volume. I've been using Tresemme for quite some time and I like the results. Let me know what you think when you get around to trying it out.

  3. ooooo what did you think of the lipgloss? i haven't seen many people receive the same one we did. i don't need to use anymore lipgloss so i didnt open it but it's sealed so i think it should be fine?
haha that nail polish is such a tease! im sorry you didn't get Gray suede!
as for the dry shampoo, no need to be scared! i just haven't had a good experience with this one in particular when i first tried it (like a year ago). it made my scalp itchy at the end of the night but perhaps they have changed it?

    1. The lip gloss really does look pretty. I haven't opened mine yet..but I kind of feel the same as you. As long as it doesn't smell/taste bad and doesn't seem seperated I may use it. :P I'm gross.
I'm going to bite the bullet and try one of these dry shampoos tonight! hehe

  4. I thought it was a good box as well despite the drama. I just wish GB had just said they were sorry instead of trying to back pedal and make excuses.

  5. I agree with Jayne, for the most part I thought the box was good. Plus I was happy for the Aveeno. I just wish I would have gotten the box a week earlier so I didn't buy another Aveeno moisturizer DOH!

    1. Yes, Aveeno is a really good brand. I'm not sure about all the hate for it. Maybe just because it's a drugstore product. It's definitely not cheap! At least you have spares now!

  6. If I was still subscribed I would have been happy with this box! I think the Aveeno really made the box great. Would love to see a review on the tinted moisturizer! :) Chelsey

  7. The Aveeno made up for the Avon and Revlon, but what bugs me is how Glossy is handling it. It would be really easy for them to apologize and offer Glossydots as compensation, but they have been in total denial and getting really defensive. I am sticking around next month and using my dots for February, we'll see if I stay after that though.

    1. Yes, that's true. I'm really disappointed with GB. There are a lot of supporters and people who continuously support them and it just doesn't seem right. I heard we may have received glossy dots, but I haven't checked yet.

  8. Meh on the earrings. That's so funny about the polish label though! I use Batiste spray dry shampoo and just spritz on my roots, then brush out. Give it a go on the weekend - you might be pleasantly surprised!

    1. Yes, I thought the same. Did you try this particular brand of dry shampoo? I've heard good things about the Batiste one!
