Revlon Selects - First Impressions

So, not too long ago Revlon Canada posted on their Facebook page that they were looking for some reviewers.  I jumped at the chance but quite honestly, I wasn't holding my breath as I wasn't a blogger with 1000's of subscribers.  Well, they did select me and I'm so thankful.  Revlon was one of the first cosmetic brands that I started purchasing as a teenager.  They've been a trusted company for a long time.  I also just wanted to add quickly that I love that Olivia Wilde is one of the brand ambassadors for Revlon...I really like her!  She is such a classic beauty!

This is the email that I received. I was so excited!  I hope they do this program again and I would love the opportunity to participate again!

Not too long after the email, came the parcel!  It was so exciting and I tore right into it!  Today, I will be sharing with you the contents and my first impressions.  I will be doing more in depth reviews on each product for you very soon.

Inside the box, was the card that explains what's in the box.  As far as I have seen across the internet everyone has received the same colours.  I think it would have been nice if there were some other colours reviewed.  Perhaps, something that Revlon Canada may consider in the future.

Revlon ColorStay Ultimate Suede Lipstick.  Instant Moisture. All-day longwearing colour.
"Velvety soft formula with moisturizing shea butter and aloe.  Comfortable food-proof wear that doesn't quit. Apply once and go."

This is a long wearing lipstick.  So, my advice is to apply a little bit of coconut either before or after applying.  Sometimes, long wear lipsticks can be drying despite their claims.  I will be trying this both ways.  My normal way to wear a long wear lipstick and also on bare lips.  I will let you know how it goes!

The packaging for my lipstick was a little bit stiff and hard to pull off.  I'm not sure if it was just mine of if anyone else has had this problem.  It's not really anything that bothers me though.  It does close really well and stays closed.  The sticker label peels off perfectly and doesn't leave residue.  I hate when they do!

The colour is 035 Backstage. My initial reaction is that the colour seems really dark.  Like a deep wine or burgundy.  I've seen others swatch it with good results and it doesn't look as dark as you would expect!

The product comes up really nicely from the tube.  The first three turns it makes a click sound both on the way up and on the way down.  I think this product will be secure in your makeup bag without worrying about it cranking itself up and smooshing all over the lid!  It really is a pretty colour with a hint of shimmer.

Revlon Diamond Collection File. Add glamour to your manicure routine.
"One side shapes the nail and the other side sparkles for salon-quality results at home"

This is a super pretty file.  I love pink and I love bling because I used to be a magpie in a past life! ;) The file does have a nice grit on the other side.  It does feel nice to hold a pretty file like this as opposed to a blah plain one. :)  Especially fun when you're playing manicurist with your daughter!  I forgot to take pics of the B side.  I will get that for you when I share my review!

Look at all the sparkles.... ;)

Revlon Nail Art Expressionist. Unleash your inner artist.
"Create detail with a skinny nail art brush.

This was such an exciting product because I've never used anything like it before.  I just love the two colours together.  The one side is a purple and the other is a gold.  The colour is 360 Vincent Van Gold. Cute name! I love cute names on polishes.

The purple was hard to photograph, but it's a beautiful royal purple colour. It has an iridescent sheen to it. It has a regular polish brush. It is labelled with a 1 to indicated it's the first of two steps. You polish your nails with this colour.

The gold is a beautiful yellow gold. It appears to have some tiny gold sparkles in it.  This one has a skinny nail brush especially for nail art.  You can create stripes and possibly other designs if you are really talented.  I'll see if my inner artist will come out with this product! ;) This one is labelled with a 2.

Revlon PhotoReady Primer + Shadow.  Colour 501 Metropolitan. Limitless Looks. One palette. No guesswork.
"Create multiple looks with one easy-to-use eye-shaped palette.  Start with the primer and add the shadow trio.  Top with sparkle or use wet for even more intensity.

It is a really nicely coloured palette.  Nudes are pretty much universal, so I think Revlon Canada played it safe by sending everyone the same.  I personally, would have loved to receive the purple one on the card. :)  But, these colours are very nice as well.

Here is the palette opened.  You can see it's shaped like an eye. It comes with two sponge tip applicators.  The bottom left colour is the primer.  It is a powder and looks identical to the top colour which is meant to be swept under the brow.  I'm not exactly sure how that all works, or if it is a primer or a base colour. Perhaps, it's something in the ingredients that makes it a primer.  I won't really be able to say too much until I try it.

The top 3 colours are pretty straight forward as to where they are applied.  You just follow the shape of your eye to the palette. The bottom right is meant to be used as a sparkle topcoat.  I suppose it's up to you where you want to add a hint of sparkle.  I think this palette pretty much leaves it up to you to play around with.  I think it could be fun.

Here is a closeup of the colours.  From this angle you can see the primer is a bit lighter than the brow highlight colour.

Revlon Nail Art Moon Candy. Create cosmic 3D effects.
"Add eye-catching 3D effects for nails that are out of this world."

I love, love, love nail polish.  I'm actually super excited about this one.  It's also a purple, but the opposite side has super shimmery/iridescent flakes.  It does have a very cosmic feel.  I love that the polish is purple as well because it's one of my favourite colours! The colour is 280 Orbit.

Side 1 is the nail polish.  It's a really deep purple. This one is a straight forward creme colour. It has a regular nail polish brush.

Side 2 has these amazing purpley iridescent flakes.  I could stare at this all day!  I can't wait to try it out.  I can see the formula is pretty thick.  This is the type of product you may want to tap on to your nail gently rather than sweep across.  I can't wait to try it out.  Hopefully, it gives me good results!  This has a standard polish brush as well.

There you have it! These are my initial reactions.  My next few reviews will all be the above products, so I hope you stick around and see what I find.  I am just as happy using drugstore brands as I am high end brands as long as they give me what I'm looking for!

This weekend went by way too fast! I hope you are all ready for the work week...I'm not sure I am! ;)

  4. What I love about this program (I missed out on this) is that they were looking at everyone big and small which was nice to see. After seeing a few of the products they sent out I actually went out and got some of them. I can't wait to try them out very soon. Looking forward to your reviews on them.
